I took these photos in the woods in NH earlier this month. I also happen to admire Thoreau. He was a very principled and interesting man, critical to the Transcendentalist movement and he wasn’t afraid to go against the grain of society. It could be said that his writings influenced the likes of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. He had a great love of New England and of the outdoors. He appreciated the tiny beauty of the everyday: a raindrop, a leaf, moss……..
I have sometimes imagined a library, i.e. a collection of the works of true poets, philosophers, naturalists, etc. deposited not in a brick and marble edifice in a crowded and dusty city….but rather far away in the depth of a primitive forest.
