2022 Juried Exhibition: As We Tilt Toward the Sun
June 17-July 9, 2022 | Opening reception, Friday, June 17, 5-7 PM

Impermanence is a concept that deeply resonates with me and inspires my portrait work (which incorporates the ever-changing natural world). Inspired by the dreamy and the ethereal, my portraitures is inspired by surrealism, an interest in botany, the temporary nature of living things, Pre-Raphaelite art nd moody light. In this piece below, called “Potential”, my subject is looking into the setting sun. Only at dusk can such portraiture be acquired. The exact time of the sunset changes from day to day and reflects the dynamic and ever-changing aspect of this type of portraiture. I am drawn to the ethereal, so selective and soft focus appeal to me, because it creates a dreamy aesthetic to my work. New beginnings are profoundly evident in this images, with my young subject looking into the light. We’re not sure what she sees or where she is going, but she has the whole unknown in front of her. This is part of my own worldview that our lives are unpredictable.
